Mandala Secrets Supply List
One of the questions I’m asked most often is about supplies.
I personally recommend working with artist-quality materials as I’ve found them to provide the best results for me. I’m also a lover of a well-made, stitched, hard-bound art journal, with quality paper on the inside.
I’m also fond of making my own paints, inks and drawing implements, so am not a stickler for professional/shop-bought materials.
Here at the Mandala Magic School, we want to make sure that our workshops are accessible to as many participants as possible, so to participate in the Mandala Secrets event all you need are something to draw with (an HB pencil is good) and something to draw on (a cheap/beginner sketchbook will work.)Β
You will also need something round to draw around – a small plate, bowl, large mug or similar will be perfect.
I also demonstrate a technique beyond pencil, including a pen and, later,Β some watercolours.
Any pen will work, it doesn’t need to be a specific artist pen/marker/fineliner and you can choose to work with any colouring tools you can find – pens, pencils, and paints all work well. I often recommend crayons but it’s unlikely that you would enjoy using crayons to colour in the small areas you will create in your mandala designs this time around.
Please also enjoy the workshop if you have access to a full range of high-quality supplies!
Leave a comment below if you’ve any other questions before we begin and I’ll do my best to answer them in the next update.
Thanks, Julie – Founder of the Mandala Magic School.

Happy New Year, Julie! I am exc for the workshop – thank you! I also really love your jewelry, by the way. The large piece with the stone is exquisite.
Hey Dar – All the best for ’23! That ring was bought from the lanes down in Brighton in the South of England – there was a story behind the woman who crafted it but that’s since been lost in time, unfortunately. Thanks for noticing, though – I rarely wear much jewellery these days – I think I was heading out on date night after I finished that day π
Thank you. Im excited to get started!
