Creative practice is beneficial: there’s plenty of science behind it. Creative practice combined with community is doubly good. Okay, perhaps my vague estimation isn’t numerically precise—numbers aren’t my thing.

But when it came to devoting May to my personal mandala practice, it felt only right to invite my fellow Mandala Magicians for some community energy, encouragement and motivation.

And lo, Mandala May was born!

It’s been a true joy to witness so many meaningful mandalas this month 💛🧡🤎

I hope you enjoy perusing the entries from our members and take encouragement and inspiration for your own practice.

Some of these mandalas have been created in response to Mandala Magic School prompts, while others are self-directed.

As part of our initiative, each entry was entered into a wee competition to win some wee prizes and I’m delighted to announce the three winners as follows:

Mandala Magic School Apron + Sticker Set: Dominika Grenckowska

Dominika’s dedication to daily mandala practice was a joy to witness. Choosing a theme for your mandala practice can provide a useful structure for free associations, and it was beautiful to see Dominika playfully visualise some deep contemplations, all sparked by sheet music.

Golf Course Crow Sketchbook + Pens Set: Anna Mycko

Anna’s exploration of visualising the quality and meaning of numbers reflected her renewed focus on regular creative practice.  In addition to a deep dive into Pythagorean-esque numerology, she took advantage of the geometry to experiment with pattern and colour.

Razor Bill + Bass Rock Sketchbook + Pen Set: Alison Pearce

There were many single images that stood out for me during May and Alison’s Almanac entry was one of them. There was a real tenderness to her rendition of the creatures and plants she encountered, especially the broken eggshell. It’s easy to get caught up in perfect rendering and colouring when mandala-making, and Alison’s image exemplified a natural and dynamic approach to drawing and colouring, with storytelling at the centre.

A big thank you to everyone who took part in our community event. I am inspired and motivated to make many more mandalas this summer!

If you’d love to join our magic circle and learn more about making meaningful mandalas, join us before our next live gathering on Saturday June 20th, just in time to celebrate the June Solstice ☀️  We’ll be delving into Stage Seven of the Great Round of Mandala: Squaring the Circle. We’ll make you very welcome!
